Spondon TZs
As soon as the CRMC voted to allow the Post Classic bikes in for an experimental season, the idea of racing a true thoroughbred machine came within reach.
The history of the famous Yamaha TZ is well known in the race world. These pages are dedicated to the Spondon variety. One is an almost exact copy of the Yamaha C frame, whilst the other is a version of the lowboy, but built in 1977.

Spondon TZ350E 1978
When purchased, this bike came with original E pipes, and Femsa ignition. New pipes were made by Andy Bacon (Abcon), whilst the ignition remained. It ran for a whole season with only plug and ring changes. There were no spares, so if anything had gone wrong, then that may have been the end of it.

Ignition has now been upgraded to Hitachi. The other main improvements have been to upgrade the engine to ‘G’ spec. With 38mm Power Jets. Cranks are built using RD400 rods, as they are less than half the price. Still use TZ big and little end bearings, but have a 5mm spacer under the barrel.

Almost ready for 2000, after a new paint job, and replacing all bearings. New shock fitted, which you can’t see.

This is ready for the 2000 season, with a new set of pipes, (made by Andy Bacon) as I kept grounding the others, due to my excess weight!! Note that I’m still using the original single Yamaha calliper. It does a good job.

First outing at Cadwell in 2000. Went ok, but developed a terrible weave on fast right handers. Not found out why, but changed things through the season to try and solve it. This Winters rebuild has hopefully done that.
This is me actually infront of someone. OK it’s only a 250, but it is a Rotax.
