Honda CB77
These bikes, in 1962, where the largest capacity manufactured by Honda for sale to the public. They were the Sports versions of the C77, and very advanced for the time.
The CRMC allows these to be raced in the 350 twins championship, where they are competing against the Honda CB350s (the bike everyone loves to hate. Or so you’d think if you believed everything you read)

As I bought it
When I began to look for a bike to race, the only realistic choice was a Honda. This was due to cost constraints, and the fact that I’d never owned or ridden any British bike. As you can see it wasn’t exactly race ready, despite what the seller said. The engine was mildly tuned, and it still had the standard road box, and points ignition.

A Season Later
As I mentioned earlier, Peter Manly tuned the engine for me. Fitted a Joy cam, and oversize valves. Plus I’d got hold of a 4sp CR box. New exhaust pipes, seat and fairing made the bike almost presentable. Then there’s the Grimeca 4LS front brake, and Boyer ignition. Also fitted a duplex primary drive.

Near the end of its racing
By now there is a lightened, balanced crank, polished rockers, and a 5sp CR box. Also it uses a 250 head, as this provides a better squish. New alloy tank and lightweight fairing have also been fitted. The bike is quick.

Post-Classic Racing

CB72 250
This bike was purchased as a companion to the pair of CB77s. It has a megacycle cam, larger valves, duplex primary drive, Boyer ignition.
