Tony Foale Rotax

If you have any information or photos about these bikes, then please e-mail me. I have only seen a picture of the bare frame with an engine in, so would really like to see the complete bike

As you can see, this is a very unusual design, having the fuel tank below the top frame tubes, and behind the engine. All the tubes are very thin, and this contributed to its problem under heavy braking, which was front end judder, due to frame flexing. Tony Foale says that in hindsight, it should have been build with thicker front tubes, and thicker main tubes from head to swingarm pivot. The shock system is pretty advanced, in that it is a rising rate type.

Tony remembers that he built about five of these bikes, but cannot remember who they went to, or even which country. Although some did go to Spain, as per the picture here from a press release

Post-Classic Racing

What this all means is that I have two major things to do on this rebuild. Firstly the frame tubes must be reinforced, or replaced and secondly find some bodywork.

The bike has not been run for a long time, but the engine does appear, on first inspection, to be as if just rebuilt for a race season. The frame has some of the worst welding I’ve ever seen, has a few dents and is very rusty. The shock needs a complete rebuild. Forks, yokes and wheels are in good condition. Basically it is all here, except for the original bodywork.

The pictures aren’t very clear, but as soon as possible I will get some good ones on this site.
